PHARMACY

Every patient at the NSHN Blind River site has access to medications prescribed by their physician thanks to the hard working staff of the pharmacy services. Making up our team is a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician and a pharmacy assistant educated to answer any questions or concerns regarding medications or their proper use.

We provide service to emergency department, acute care unit, long term care, as well as our satellite sites: Thessalon and Matthews Memorial sites.  We collaborate with physicians, nurses, dieticians, physiotherapists, social workers and more to ensure the service provided to patients is not only safe but best practice.  Our technical services include monitoring and restocking medication supply to all three sites, preparation of medications and ensuring all Ontario College of Pharmacy standards are met.  Our clinical services additionally provide weekly rounds, policy and protocol reviews, patient medication review, and maintaining the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Recently we have incorporated the Meditech Pharmacy technology into our system allowing inpatient medication histories to be accessible in an Electronic Medical Record.  A total of 22 partner hospitals can now share information regarding patient prescriptions to ensure the proper dispense of medications.
