NSHN recognizes employees, providers, and volunteers who stand out by consistently delivering exceptional patient, resident or client experience. Any NSHN employee, provider or volunteer may be recognized, regardless of whether or they work directly with patients, residents or clients - everyone at NSHN contributes to the patient, resident and client experience in different ways.

Experience Champions demonstrate NSHN’s values of:

  • Compassion

  • Accountability

  • Respect

  • Equity

  • Sustainability

NSHN C.A.R.E.S.

Demonstrating these values contributes to a positive and patient-centered healthcare environment, fostering trust among our patients, residents and clients, their family members / loved ones, and our healthcare team.

Experience Champions are highlighted each month on our website, announced on our Facebook page, posted on the bulletin board outside of the Cafeteria at the Blind River Site and displayed on our digital signage at all sites.

Examples of demonstrating NSHN's Values

COMPASSION

A nurse notices a patient who seems distressed and takes the time to sit and listen to their concerns, offering emotional support. The nurse also ensures that the patient's family is updated and involved in the care plan, showing empathy and understanding.

ACCOUNTABILITY

A healthcare provider realizes they made an error in administering medication to a patient. They immediately report the mistake to the appropriate supervisor, document the incident accurately, and collaborate with the team to implement corrective actions. Taking responsibility for errors and learning from them is a demonstration of accountability.

RESPECT

While communicating with a resident and their family, a Provider provided information regarding traditional medicines the resident was receiving before coming to long-term care. The Provider recognizes and respects the cultural differences of the resident and their family and asks questions to better understand their values and cultural preferences. This ensures the treatment plan aligns with the resident's beliefs and respects their autonomy.

EQUITY

A hospital administrator implements policies to ensure equal access to healthcare services for all patients, regardless of their socio-economic background. The hospital also actively works to eliminate disparities in healthcare outcomes by implementing targeted interventions for at-risk populations.

SUSTAINABILITY

A group of hospital staff create a focused textile recycling program in an attempt to reduce waste and minimize NSHN's ecological footprint.
