Emergency Department

Upon arrival at NSHN's Richards Landing-Matthews Emergency Department you will have to ring the bell - located on the right side of the inner door, after entering through the Main Entrance - to notify our staff of your arrival.

 

There is an accessible entrance/wheelchair ramp at the back of the hospital. Again, you will need to ring the bell at the accessible entrance to notify staff of your arrival.

When coming to the Emergency Department, please remember to bring the following items / documentation: 

  • Ontario Health Card

  • Details of any additional health coverage or insurance policies

  • Power of Attorney for Personal Care (if applicable)

  • Emergency contact numbers

  • Medication you are currently taking

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Our Nurse Practitioner is on-site Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

GERIATRIC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT (GEM) NURSE

A GEM Nurse specializes in caring for older adults in the emergency department by:

  • performing focused assessments,

  • linking patients to community services, and

  • developing care plans to prevent functional decline and repeat visits. 

GEM Nurses are trained to recognize the complex needs of seniors, such as frailty, multiple medications, and cognitive issues, to improve their health outcomes. 

Our GEM Nurse is on-site on Thursdays for scheduled follow-ups with patients, as required.
