GERIATRIC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT (GEM) NURSE

A GEM Nurse specializes in caring for older adults in the emergency department by:

  • performing focused assessments,

  • linking patients to community services, and

  • developing care plans to prevent functional decline and repeat visits.

GEM Nurses are trained to recognize the complex needs of seniors, such as frailty, multiple medications, and cognitive issues, to improve their health outcomes.

Our GEM Nurse runs a clinic out of our Thessalon site (geriatric assessments) and is on-site in the Emergency Department four (4) days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
